The Electrically Assisted Bicycle (EAB), more commonly known as an electric bike, is based on the appearance of a classic bicycle but has one key feature that sets it apart: it has an electric motor!

But the motor isn't the only thing that keeps the bike moving — you play a big part too. Indeed, this mode of transport combines your energy with that of the motor.

The price of electric bikes on the market can range from 900 to 5,000 euros for the highest-quality models. A rather high price, but can this investment pay off over time?

The answer is yes! Unlike a mechanical bike, an electric bike allows you to cover longer distances at a higher speed, making it closer in usefulness to a scooter or motorbike.

And it's especially when it comes to the budget you'll spend on charging your 2-wheeler that you'll be pleasantly surprised. Based on various calculations, expect a cost of around €1 of electricity per 1,000km — that's €0.001 per kilometer. To give you an idea, a car consumes around €85 worth of fuel per 1,000km, or €0.085 per kilometer traveled.
