In this article we share our 5 essential tips for getting back into running in autumn, staying motivated and enjoying the seasonal scenery despite the cold.
Don't let the weather get you down — trust us, a hot chocolate by the fireplace is all the more enjoyable after a great training session!
Tip 1
Set yourself achievable goals
One of the keys to staying motivated is setting simple and achievable goals. No need to aim for a marathon if you haven't run in weeks or even months! Start with short sessions (20 minutes is already great), then gradually increase the duration and intensity.
Setting small goals is the key to staying on track without feeling overwhelmed by a goal that seems too far away.
Tip 2
Invest in the right gear
When running in autumn, having the right clothing makes all the difference.
Go for lightweight and breathable layers that keep you warm without overheating. A waterproof jacket is essential for rainy days, and don't forget accessories like gloves or a beanie.
If you run in the evening, keep your autumn runs safe with visible gear suited for the dark.
And of course, a great phone mount like the Shapeheart is a must for listening to your best motivational playlists while keeping your hands free.

Tip 3
Join a running group: Motivation is contagious!
Joining a running group is an excellent way to keep the pace and not give up, even when the weather isn't on your side.
Whether it's with friends or through apps, knowing that others are counting on you will give you the energy you need to lace up your sneakers, even in the cold.
Our favorite apps:
OuiRun: This 100% community running app lets you meet runners near you to organize or suggest group running outings.
We'll leave you here with an article from the Je vais Courir blog about the OuiRun app for more information.
Tip n°4
Enjoy the autumn scenery
Running in autumn is also a chance to rediscover routes around your area. The colors change and the streets/trails are often quieter — the perfect opportunity to explore new routes and appreciate the changing seasons.
A great playlist to add to the "main character" vibe (as the English say) and nothing will stop you.
Tip n°5
Adapt your sessions to the daylight
With the days getting shorter, it becomes harder to run in the morning or late afternoon. Think about adjusting your running schedule according to daylight to avoid poorly lit areas. If you have to run in the dark, make sure you're visible with reflective gear and/or a headlamp.
Our suggestion:
Schedule a Sunday morning run of about 30 minutes (yes, we said motivation!) and a 20-minute run right after getting home from work.
PRO tip: If you can get into your workout clothes before leaving work, you'll be less tempted to crash on the couch when you get home.
Getting back into running in autumn can be a real challenge, but with these few tips, you'll stay motivated and in shape throughout the season.
So lace up your sneakers, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy everything autumn has to offer. You'll see — once you're well equipped and prepared, you won't want to stop!
