Bike phone Sleeve: which one to choose?
A bike phone sleeve protects your smartphone on the handlebars, in all weather conditions, while giving you access to your navigation with one hand. The principle: a magnetic mount attaches to the stem, and a magnetized sleeve on the phone side lets you place and remove the device without searching. On a commute or a long ride, it's the difference between a damaged phone and an operational one at the finish.
- Protects your screen and charging ports from rain throughout the ride, even during heavy downpours
- GPS readable while riding
- One-handed placement and removal, no unclipping
- Two formats depending on the weather: camera window for daily use, waterproof IP68 for heavy rain
Why put your phone in a sleeve on the bike?
The handlebars aren't the kindest place for a smartphone. On a ride, vibrations from paving and trails, water spray and changing weather accumulate. A sleeve protects the screen and charging ports without interrupting navigation.
Safety also comes into play. An unprotected phone on the handlebars can come loose on a descent or with hard braking. With a magnetized sleeve, the device stays in place even on rough terrain, without slipping or needing extra screwing.
Photography, finally. Filming an MTB ride or a commute in timelapse is much easier when the rear camera stays accessible from the sleeve. On the rides we regularly document, it's the first choice criterion after protection from rain.
Camera window sleeve or waterproof sleeve: which one to choose?
Both serve different uses. Here are the essential differences.
| Camera window sleeve | Waterproof sleeve IP68 | |
|---|---|---|
| Protection | Light to moderate rain | Heavy rain, immersion (IP68) |
| Camera access | Yes, open window | Yes, integrated window |
| Typical use | Commute, hiking, shoulder season | Cycle touring, all-weather rides |
| Standard | Splash resistance | IEC 60529 IP68 |
The camera window sleeve, ideal for daily use
It protects the screen from light rain while leaving the rear camera clear for filming while riding. It's the right choice for most rides: commute, hiking or long distance. Lightweight and easy to mount, it covers virtually all current smartphones and slots onto the magnetic mount with no tools.
The waterproof sleeve (IP68), for rainy days
When the weather is truly bad, the waterproof sleeve takes over. Certified IP68 according to the IEC 60529 standard, it resists prolonged immersion. It also integrates a camera window: your camera remains accessible during the ride, even in heavy rain, without having to remove the sleeve.
The right bike mount is the one you place with one hand at every departure and don't tear off at the wrong moment.
Attaching the sleeve to the bike handlebars
The Shapeheart bike phone mount attaches to the stem and receives your phone with a magnetic click. The sleeve, magnetized on the phone side, is placed and removed in one motion. No clips, no screws to loosen between destinations.
The mount fits most standard handlebars (22 to 32 mm diameter), including flat bars on MTBs and city bikes as well as curved road handlebars. On our test model with a flat bar, the tightness remains solid after 80 km of paved trails, without needing to retighten between rides. For crowded handlebars, a stem mount is also available.
The sleeve comes off on its own, without the mount, to recharge the phone or slip it in a pocket: the mount stays on the bike. To choose the bike phone sleeve best suited to your use, check out the Shapeheart bike range.
